WHY SHOULD WE BOOK A DJ?

If you're throwing a wedding, party or other event you might be weighing up the differences between a DJ and streaming a playlist through a device. I might be biased, but here is why I think a DJ is a worthwhile investment:

  • You get a real person, who can interact with the crowd - DJs are entertainers first and foremost

  • The right DJ will think on their feet, use exciting transitions while they mix and choose the right tracks in the moment

  • You can relax, without needing to agonise over playlists, source technical equipment, or troubleshoot any hiccups with your set-up on the day

  • Rogue guests won't be able to take over your playlist and risk destroying the vibe

  • A well-dressed DJ looks so much cooler than a tablet!

ARE YOU INCLUSIVE?

The answer is yes - as much as I possibly can be!

I do my best to avoid making assumptions about anyone who enquires with me, or reinforcing stereotypes around the music you might choose.

My usual set-up involves loud music and bright/flashing lights, but I can make adjustments to my equipment (or work with your venue if I'm using theirs) to make the experience more comfortable for you and your guests. I will always ask about accessibility in our pre-booking consultations so I can better understand your needs.

Music is one of the best ways we can express our identity, and I want to support disabled, LGBTQIA+, and ethnically diverse individuals to celebrate important life events with your loved ones, soundtracked by your favourite tunes.

I don't make or promote 'tokenistic' diversity posts on social media - e.g. you won't be plastered all over my Instagram every time Pride month comes around! I also continue to educate myself through programmes such as Rebel Love's LGBTQ+ Inclusivity training, as well as listening and reading about other people's experiences.

WHAT AREA DO YOU COVER?

I'm currently based in Leeds, but I LOVE to travel and explore new places. If your event is within 50 miles of my home then travel is included in my fee, beyond that is priced at 45p per mile.

If your venue is more than 2 hours away by car, then I will ask you to arrange basic overnight accommodation the night after your event. I can include this in your quote if you prefer.

DO YOU NEED REFRESHMENTS?

I don't expect to be fed, although I will be on the go for a long time at most events so I always appreciate a steady supply of fizzy water - and I'm grateful for a meal or snacks to keep me going through the evening!

WHAT ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA?

I will sometimes take photos and short videos during set-up and live play at my events. This helps me to show others what I can do through my social media channels, website and other promotional material.

If you’re uncomfortable with this or have any concerns related to images or content sharing, please let me know. I will always co-operate with any professional photographers and videographers at your event to avoid interfering with their work.

I'm also happy to tag you and will give credit to any suppliers as appropriate in my posts - hopefully they will do the same if I appear in any of theirs!

WHAT IS YOUR DRESS CODE?

I couldn't be further from a no-frills DJ - I'm a peacock in human form and my wardrobe reflects that. Think head-to-toe frills, sequins and tassels!

My dress sense extends to the space around me and I always bring an assortment of shiny things to jazz up the booth - my sequin covers always manage to draw people to the dancefloor.

If you have a specific dress code in mind for your event, then please let me know.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?

I use an all-in-one Pioneer XDJ controller which means I can bring my huge digital library anywhere I go, and I always pack a mic for announcements if needed.

You can also hire my soundsystem (dual Subzero L68 column speakers) and various lighting options if your venue doesn't have this available.

All my equipment is Portable Applicance Tested (PAT) if more than 2 years old.

WHAT STYLE DO YOU PLAY?

I'm obsessed with music of all genres so my style is difficult to pin down! I'd describe my DJing as open format and eclectic - bringing a touch of alternative music to the masses brings me unbridled joy.

To get a flavour of what to expect from my sets, you can visit my Mixcloud or check out my sample playlists on my blog.

HOW DO WE BOOK YOU?

All you need to do is ask! Simply get in touch to arrange a video call to talk about your event in more detail.

To secure your date, I ask for a £100 deposit and completion of my booking agreement online. Your remaining balance will be due 6 weeks before your event.

HOW MUCH DO YOU CHARGE?

My event packages start from £450. Quotes are based on the duration of live play, travel, and equipment hire if applicable. Please get in touch to discuss your individual requirements.

The cost of your package includes prep time (e.g. making arrangements with your venue), setting up and packing away equipment, travel, wear and tear and other costs such as music downloads and insurance.

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU DON'T PLAY?

My track selections are fully personalised and guided by you, and I also ask plenty of questions about your guests to get a feel for what they'll enjoy on the day.

That being said, the best DJs will always have their own influence over the playlist too - we're not robots!

We'll put together a list of your 'do not play' tracks or artists as part of your consultation before booking - and I'll have your back by politely swerving requests for those songs if needed.

I'm committed to being an inclusive supplier to weddings and events, and supporting my clients to feel safe. For this reason, I choose not to fund or platform artists who have knowingly perpetrated violence of any kind - that includes spreading hatred or prejudice of any form.

ARE YOU INSURED?

My insurance covers Public Liability and Professional Indemnity, both up to £1 million. I can provide an insurance certificate to your venue on request.

All of my equipment including décor has been carefully chosen and is my pride and joy – I look after it carefully and would appreciate if you and your guests do too. I will politely ask anyone with food and drink to move this away from the DJ booth to prevent accidents from happening.

If any of my equipment is damaged as a result of someone in your party or a third party involved with your event, then I will seek payment for a replacement for the market value of any damaged items via invoice which must be paid within 7 days of receipt.

WHAT IF WE NEED TO CANCEL?

If you need to cancel or rearrange a booking, please get in touch as soon as possible. I am happy to move bookings to a new date if I'm available.

Your deposit is non-refundable, but if you cancel more than 30 days before your event and the remaining balance has already been paid then you will receive 50% back, minus the deposit amount. Cancellations less than 30 days before the event cannot be refunded.

WHAT IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL?

I hope this never has to happen, but in the unfortunate event I'm unable to make your event then all deposits and fees already paid will be refunded to you in full.

If I need to cancel less than a month before your event then I will also do my best to help you find a suitable replacement.
